diving nusa penida

Diving in Nusa Penida got its popularity thanks to Manta Rays and Molas. You can see Mantas all year round and Molas you can encounter between June and October (occasionally they can be spotted during other months ). With a 45 minutes boat ride from Sanur, diving in Nusa Penida offers everything you expect from a tropical island. Healthy corals, sharks and turtles are just a small part of it. There are many dive sites on the island each of them bringing a unique and exciting experience.
In Manta Point as the name tells you have very good chances to meet Manta Rays. Watch them while they are doing their daily routines and take memorable pictures. In Crystal Bay dive site you can spot the sunfish while they’re getting their body scrubbed by other fishes. In SD Point and in Mangroove dive sites you will find one of the healthiest corals of Bali.
Usually in Nusa Penida we do 3 dives in different dive sites and we choose them upon the best weather conditions.
Temperature is warm during most part of the year (usually around 26-30°C). During summer between June to October temperature goes down a little bit and that’s when our 5mm wetsuit comes to help. The depth for all dive sites in Nusa Penida variates between 5-40 meters. Excellent conditions for your PADI Advanced Open Water and additional training if you want to try to dive deeper.

Manta Point - manta dive site nusa penida

Manta Point is located in the south part of the island. Here is where you have good chances to swim with the friendly Mantas while diving in Nusa Penida. At the dive site around 12 meters there is a big rock where the Mantas do their cleaning routines. It’s an excellent spot for both snorkelers and divers.
From the rock the site continues with a coral wall down to the bottom where you can see octopus, stingrays and sometimes during summer even Mola. The site is in a bay so there won’t be so much current but sometimes there will be surge that you will be able to handle with the briefing/tips of you’re guide/instructor. The temperature is around 26-29°C reaching down to 20-22°C during summer.

Crystal Bay - mola mola dive site nusa penida

Crystal Bay got its name from the crystal clear water that you can find here. Located in the West area of the island is the best site in Bali to spot Molas while diving in Nusa Penida. This strange but interesting animal comes up from deep to shallow water to get his body cleaned by groups of bannerfish.
Once in cleaning process the Mola stays in pose for very long. It’s a good time for us to admire the cleaning process and to take cool pictures. Apart of the main attraction mola, this site offers very good coral, with plenty of water activities from both small and big marine life. The current can sometimes be very strong but you will be in good hands with your guide/instructor. In summer, temperature can drop down to 16°C so you will be equipped with a ticker wet suit.

SD Point - drift dive site nusa penida

In the north of Nusa Penida, SD Point has everything to make it enjoyable for both snorkelers and divers. This site got its name from the school just in front of where we park the boat.
The coral reef starts very close to the shore and drops down to a very beautiful coral wall where the vision get stunning: tuna, parrotfish, pufferfish and much more. Especially during summer (June- Oct) when diving in Nusa Penida offers more chance to spot the big stuff, this site reveals quiet unexpected surprises. Not too difficult to spot thresher sharks and sometimes even whale sharks. It is a drift site, so you will follow the current with your guide until the end of the dive, where the boat will pick you up.

Mangrove - healthy coral dive site nusa penida

Located in Nusa Lembongan, the island neighbour of Nusa Penida. This dive site got his name after the huge area of mangroove growing on its shore. Here the coral is very rich and one of the healthiest you can spot diving in Nusa Penida.
The current can be quiet strong, but it’s a good chance to grow your drift skills and explore the ocean. Let the current do the swim while you enjoy the scenery like in a moovie. The nature here is so dominated by soft and hard coral that is difficult to focus on other marine life that surrounds it. If you can find some sandy spots, you can keep an eye to identify the various fishes that hides on top of it.
